Second quarter assignments

For second quarter, the following classwork assignments should be completed by December 1st:
1. Composition of thirds
2. Street Photography
3. Teen Ink
4. Photo-shoot #1: Choose either Up close, shadows, or your choice



Overdue
1. National Geographic movie

Black and white photo-shoot

Directions: Using the role of black and white film, choose four of your best prints. Mount the prints on paper to be displayed in the case outside of the room. Each print should have a caption. You should also have your name visible in the display case as well. This counts as your last major assessment for the quarter.

Photographs documenting history

Please look at this photo gallery and choose a photograph that stands out to you. If you can attach a link to the photo and if not please list the title of the photograph and why it stood out to you. What is the value of still images in an event like 9/11?

Daily Photograph

Please go to this photograph and after viewing the photograph for a few moments see if you can describe it using three elements from the learning to look handout.

Life Movie

Please watch the film, Life, and complete a viewing log. This will help you prepare for doing a photo-essay.

Photographs and documenting history

Read this article and respond to whether or not photographs provide evidence for historical events. Then go to fellow student's sites and look at their Women and Photography. Make a comment on their site either about something you learned, a photograph or how to improve the lesson.

Teen Ink: Student photography

Go to Teen Ink., an on-line teen literary magazine, that includes art and photography.  Browse through the photographs and then comment on three of them.  On your blog, provide a link to the photograph you chose and the comments. Label the post Teen Ink.

Documenting events in Japan

As you view some of the photographs coming out of Japan, share some of your reactions to them.  What is the power of documenting the event through photographs versus video or hearing a news cast? Give examples to back up what you are saying?  Provide a link to the photographs that you looked at.

Elements of Design

This assignment requires that you understand elements of design so that you can keep these in mind when you go to take your own photographs. These terms also enable you to have a language in which to discuss and appreciate photographs.

1. Read through the Learning to Look handout on my blog.

3. Go to the National Geographicand find 10 photographs that stand out to you.

4. Create a keynote of the 10 chosen photograph.  Be sure to site who the photographer is (when possible) and what design elements (name top 2) you see in the photography.  Save it on a thumb drive. Label it with your name and elements of design and then hand it in to me.
